Corian Tree Side Table

Posted in limited edition with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on March 2, 2011 by Ilan Dei Studio

Our new side tables express simple gestures and subtleties that we see in the branches and canopies of the beautiful trees local to California. Keeping in our tradition of using nature as our inspiration we have used heated Corian to capture the song and dance of our surroundings.

We often experiment with materiality and although primarily used for counter tops, Corian offers itself as an elegant sculptural material that can be manipulated into many forms that result in a smooth and pure final product.

Namibia Credenza – Evolution Revolution

In his obsession with nature and ongoing exploration of water, Ilan Dei has created a contrasting collection between well crafted contemporary furniture and urban graffiti.  Unnoticeable at first glance the graffiti is like a seedy underbelly of the furniture that you can only experience from certain angles and interactions. The elegant wood credenza, console and side table were inspired by Dei’s travels to the desert coastlines of Namibia, while the subtly constrained graffiti is applied as an urban infusion inspired by the street art around the Venice Beach Studio.

Urban Log Collection

Posted in limited edition with tags , , , on March 15, 2010 by Ilan Dei Studio

The Urban Logs Collection from Ilan Dei Studio is the latest line of furniture to be released in their limited edition collection. Focusing on “urban renewal” each piece gives new life to urban and suburban trees that have been previously removed and are destined to become waste or firewood. Naturally every log has a different shape, texture, and story adding uniqueness and a history to each piece. This natural individuality is contrasted by the simple, yet industrial elements of safety orange tube, orange upholstery and smoky copper tinted mirrors.

Inspiration for the concept came from continuously finding beautiful pieces of unused logs lying around the neighborhoods surrounding the studio here in Venice, CA. The first run of furniture used redwood for the tables and chairs, and White Oak for the lights, however, there is such a variety of species available around the Los Angeles area that future generations will constantly be changing species. The furniture was originally utilized in A. Kinney Court, one of Ilan Dei Studio’s recent interior design projects.

The Lotus Stool

Posted in limited edition on October 1, 2008 by Ilan Dei Studio

Ilan Dei Studio’s Limited Edition plaster Lotus Stool is a modern update to the iconic, centuries-old Chinese version. The lotus pattern is interpreted in a minimal, modern way that emphasizes shape and pattern, while still retaining a strong spiritual meaning. In Buddhist paintings and sculpture, the Buddha is often seated on a lotus flower. Dei’s design encourages you to tune into your spiritual beauty and connect with your inner Zen.
