Garden Wave Wall Completed

Posted in interior design with tags , , , , on November 19, 2010 by Ilan Dei Studio

Ilan Dei Studio has recently completed a 45′ sculptural wall for a private residence in Los Angeles CA. The wall is inspired by the topography of the canyon that the property sits on and the corresponding view of the Pacific Ocean. Creating a backdrop on the edge of the property the wall defines an outdoor dining room complete with dining table, elaborate views of the canyon and ocean, and cooling shade from the tree branches overhead.

Mixing traditional Japanese simplicity with California Modernism and Digital Fabrication the wall is perceived differently depending on where the user is located within the property. The Redwood is set against green vegetation to create a contrast of color and depth that shifts in and out of view.

Designed by Ilan Dei Studio, A. Kinney Court is described as a “concept fashion boutique and eyewear gallery” on  Abbot Kinney Blvd.  Located just a few blocks away from our design studio and workshop in Venice, CA. The interior was not only designed but completely fabricated and constructed by Ilan Dei Studio (project team: Ilan Dei, Peter Turba and Scott Chamberlain) with the intention of dynamically displaying the eyewear and other products.

The design intention takes cues from a variety of inspirations, ranging from the Eames bent plywood processes and skateboard construction to the sand dune formations and ocean waves seen along the neighboring coast.

This soothing, contemporary spa-like residential bathroom creates a healing oasis just ten steps from the bedroom. In a soft monochrome of whites, the spacious shower is done in Eurostone tile and slab, countertops are covered in Corian and the sleek vanity doors are covered in silvery low-iron glass by Pulp Studio.

Powder Room

Dei designed this residential powder room to resemble a modern jewelry box, full of faceted surfaces reflecting brilliant light. Designer and custom pieces are combined to achieve the look: textured cement tiles on the walls were made locally by Daniel Ogassian, the toilet is by Kohler, the floor is a reflective glass tile by Ann Sacks, the sink is by Alape, and the vanity was custom made by Ilan Dei Studio.

This month Ilan Dei Studio completes the interior design of the Leight family’s Santa Monica home. As an eyewear designer, Leight appreciates luxurious materials, clean lines and smooth reflective surfaces. Dei’s Whites collection proved to be the perfect fit for Leight’s home office. The collection of molded resin finished fiberglass furniture is fabricated in Dei’s Venice, California, studio and is inspired by nature and water-like fluidity. With its sensual modern lines and highly polished surfaces, Whites evokes smooth, shiny marble, sun washed seashells and gleaming white porcelain.

Green Cuisine to Open in Silver Lake with Bleu Sage

Posted in interior design on August 5, 2008 by Ilan Dei Studio

Green dining goes blue at Bleu Sage, an Ilan Dei designed restaurant set to open in Los Angeles’ Silver Lake in September. A clear departure from the hippy image of many such eateries, owners Jennifer Frankovis and Myrna Marin requested a design for Bleu Sage that’s modern, earth friendly and fresh. Scandinavian fabrics from the 60’s and 70’s inspired the look of the restaurant which features a wall of back lit and oversized sage leaves and a heavy emphasis on renewable and recycled materials.
